Damian is an experienced advocate with particular expertise in criminal law and regulatory matters. After completing his law degree at the University of Sydney, he undertook practical training with the Public Defenders. He worked as a solicitor at Legal Aid NSW from 2011 to 2015, and later at the Office of Environment and Heritage, until he was called to the bar in 2016.
As a barrister Damian has appeared in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal, Supreme Court of NSW, District Court of NSW, Local Court of NSW and the Land and Environment Court of NSW. He has conducted prosecutions and appeared for defendants in complex criminal matters, including jury trials, defended hearings, appeals, sentencing proceedings and bail applications. In 2019, he served as counsel assisting the NSW Special Commission of Inquiry into the Drug ‘Ice’.
A proud descendant of the Gundungurra people, in 2022 Damian became the first Aboriginal person appointed as a Crown Prosecutor in NSW. In 2025 he was recognised with the prestigious Ngalaya First Nations Lawyer of the Year Award.
Damian is a commissioned officer with the Royal Australian Navy and holds a Master of Laws (Criminal Prosecutions) and a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering, both from the University of Wollongong. He is actively involved with the Australian Bar Association and NSW Bar Association, currently serving on the NSW Bar Council and on committees focused on First Nations issues. He regularly presents at legal seminars and conferences around the country.
