Sean is a highly experienced barrister with extensive advocacy expertise, particularly in the area of criminal law. He has a strong reputation in conducting lengthy and complex jury trials. Sean’s expansive advocacy practice sees him appearing in a diverse range of jurisdictions including the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal, Supreme Court of NSW, District Court of NSW, Local Court of NSW, NSW Children’s Court, and the Drug Court of NSW. In addition to his criminal practice, Sean appears in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal in professional disciplinary hearings in the Tribunal’s Occupational Division.

Sean has appeared in a number of high profile cases involving diverse areas of the criminal law including copyright offences, child grooming, people smuggling, terrorism, forced marriage, fraud and Australia’s largest ever cocaine importation conspiracy.

  • Baydoun v DPP (Cth) [2024] NSWCCA 65: Sentence Appeal for Commonwealth identity crime offences.
  • Geraghty v DPP (Cth) [2023] NSWCCA 47 and Thompson v DPP (Cth) [2023] NSWCCA 244. Related conviction and sentence appeals. The grounds related to the admissibility of tendency evidence and whether a life sentence was manifestly excessive.
  • Kiad and Al-Kutobi v DPP (Cth) [2023] NSWCCA 155. Sentence appeal in relation to Commonwealth terrorism offences.
  • SF v R [2022] NSWCCA 216. Successful sentence appeal for the appellant.
  • DPP (Cth) v Dougas, Read and Linke. Prosecution of the first foreign bribery offences contrary to the Criminal Code (Cth) to go to trial. The conspiracy was to bribe foreign government officials in the Philippines to secure engineering contracts.

  • Huynh v DPP (Cth) [2020] NSWCCA 202: Conviction Appeal.
